Mapping The Industry

The bottle water industry is dominated by four large transnational corporations: Coca-Cola, Pepsico, Nestlé and Danone. These “Big 4” giants in the industry have economies that are larger than some countries. When one of the Big 4 establishes a plant in a community they take not only water from the regions aquifers or municipal water utilities, but often they receive massive subsidies and tax exemptions.

This map provides information on bottling plants. We keep up to date with the bottled water industry by tracking plant locations, water sources and takings, and contact information. With this information, individuals and communities can engage in strategic actions to highlight these companies’ destructive activities.

Using Google Earth, you can scroll out from the bottling plants, and imagine the larger watersheds and major water sources in the region.

Do you know which unions represent the workers at these plants or do you know environmental groups working on related water issues near one of these plants? Join in our collective research and send new information on bottling plants in your area to mapping@polarisinstitute.org.
