2nd Annual Sustainable High Schools Conference--Ottawa

On Friday, October 16th, Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School (SWL), in partnership with the Sierra Youth Coalition, will be host to the 2nd Annual Sustainable High Schools Conference. The conference will provide training to students to enhance their capacities to lead successful sustainability initiatives at their schools and create opportunities for Anglophone and Francophone students from public and Catholic school boards to connect and learn from each other. Registration now open, but spaces are limited!

When? Friday, October 16, 2009
Where? Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School, Orleans, ON (accessible by bus or bike, participants must arrange for their own transportation
Who? Action teams from as many as 20 Ottawa-area high schools. Generally, each action team is made up of 5 students and 2 teachers or other school staff members (e.g. administrators, custodians, support staff)
What should I bring? A litter-free lunch, pen, notebook, and ideas about sustainable projects from your high school that are ongoing or have been completed.

There is no nomination process, but schools should carefully consider which students and staff would be most appropriate to represent their school. Register Today!/Inscrivez-vous maintenant!

The Sierra Youth Coalition believes in working towards a barrier-free environment. Both the Steering Committee Retreat and the Sustainable High Schools Conference are bilingual (English/French) events, and there is no fee associated with either activity.

“How to Build a Bottled Water Free School!”: Ever found yourself wondering “What’s up with bottled water?! Whatever happened to water fountains”? Join the Re-Fresh!/ Re-Jaillir! Team in a bi-lingual workshop on environmental and social justice campaign building. You will have the opportunity to take a close look at a campaign to ban bottled water at your school, while also being provided with the necessary tools to create your own campaign around sustainability!
